BUCKHANNON, WEST VIRGINIA – December 2, 2025

THE UPSHUR COUNTY COMMISSION on Thursday approved two major action items during its regular public meeting: awarding a timber-harvesting contract for James W. Curry Park and accepting a bid to replace windows at the Upshur County Courthouse. The actions were confirmed through official county meeting records.

Commission documents show three bids were submitted for the timber sale: Northwest Hardwoods at $53,486.55, Buckhannon River Timber at $50,507, and Tri-State Forest Products at $30,778.38. Commissioners selected Northwest Hardwoods. According to county documentation, the proposal covers the sale of 576 marked trees totaling approximately 169,236 board-feet. All revenue generated from the sale will be deposited into the James W. Curry Park Foundation Fund for ongoing maintenance and operations.

The Commission also reviewed a single bid for the courthouse window-replacement project. City Construction of Clarksburg submitted a proposal totaling $36,750, plus a $735 Business & Occupation tax, for a total cost of $37,485. THE UPSHUR COUNTY COMMISSION voted unanimously to accept the bid. Records show that most project funding is sourced from a U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY grant administered through the Office of State and Community Energy Programs. With the grant offset, the county’s additional cost amounts to $485 beyond the project’s initial $37,000 budgeted amount.

Commission President Doug Bush moved to approve the bid. Commissioners Sam Nolte and Kristi Tenney concurred. No alternate proposals or amendments were presented.
