LYNCHBURG, VA — December 3, 2025
Liberty University issued an emergency alert late Tuesday night following a reported bomb threat near the Large Traffic Circle by Williams Stadium. According to the LIBERTY UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SECURITY & PUBLIC SAFETY, the alert instructed students and staff to avoid the area while law enforcement and campus safety teams responded to the report.
The threat was received at approximately 10:09 p.m., according to information provided directly by the LYNCHBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT. Officers established a command post near the scene and coordinated with campus security to block access to surrounding streets while the area was investigated.
Around 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, the LIBERTY UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SECURITY & PUBLIC SAFETY issued a follow-up message confirming that the affected area had been “effectively searched with nothing found,” and that the campus had been cleared to resume normal activity.
In a formal statement, LIBERTY UNIVERSITY said the investigation determined the incident “appears to be a swatting incident or hoax,” but emphasized that the university takes all such threats seriously and conducts full investigations whenever a report is made. The university also expressed appreciation to the LYNCHBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT for assisting with the response.
All emergency restrictions have since been lifted. Liberty University confirmed that no device was located and no credible threat remains on campus.
