NEW YORK — December 4, 2025.
The FBI New York Field Office announced today that it is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for credible information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for the 2001 homicide of 32-year-old Nancy Smith. According to the FBI, Smith was found dead in her New Windsor, New York home on December 5, 2001, with multiple stab wounds. The case has remained unsolved for more than two decades.
The renewed appeal for public assistance comes as investigators continue reviewing the case alongside the New Windsor Police Department and the New York State Police, with federal authorities emphasizing that modern forensic techniques and new case-development methods have opened avenues worth re-examining.
The FBI is asking anyone who may have information, whether from the time of the homicide or in the years since, to come forward. Tips can be submitted directly to the FBI New York Field Office at (212) 384-1000, to the New Windsor Police Department at (845) 563-4678, or online through the FBI’s tip portal at tips.fbi.gov. Callers may remain anonymous.
