EL PASO TX December 6 2025

In a report put forth by the United States Immigration And Customs Enforcement, a 48-year-old Guatemalan man in federal custody died while hospitalized. According to ICE, medical professionals, at The Hospitals of Providence East in El Paso, pronounced Gaspar Andres dead at 5:53AM in the morning on December 3rd. The agency stated that he’d been admitted to the hospital on November 16th, and that his death was attributed to liver and kidney failure: no official cause of death has been determined or documented as of yet that we could find.  The report explains that from the moment federal personnel were notified of his health crisis, he received continuous medical attention.

Gaspar, reportedly, entered the United States illegally by walking across the international boundary from Mexico at a point not designated as a legal port of entry; ICE said that he was arrested on September 1st by Florida Highway Patrol working with Enforcement and Removal operations in Miami, during a planned operation. After his arrest, federal deportation officers confirmed that he was living in the country illegally and he was taken to the Krome South Processing Center for processing. On September 4th, he was admitted to West Kendall Hospital for treatment of alcohol withdrawal; he was released on September 7th and returned to the Processing Center.

On September 19th, Enforcement and Removal Operations Miami transferred him to the El Paso area, and he was detained at the Camp East Montana facility, pending removal proceedings. Medical staff at the facility treated him for acid reflux and headaches on the 23rd; on the 26th the Miami field office filed a motion to change venue with the Executive Office of Immigration Review, so his proceedings could continue in El Paso. Between November 3rd and 13th, he received further treatment for lightheadedness and flu-like symptoms, bleeding gums, sore throat, and body aches, and on the 14th, an immigration judge ordered him removed to Guatemala. In the days following, medical staff continued to treat him for fever, body aches, phlegm producing cough, jaundice, swelling in his left leg, and high blood pressure.

After showing low sodium levels, Gaspar was admitted to The Hospitals of Providence, after showing signs of low sodium levels; three days later the hospital staff diagnosed hyponatremia. As days progressed, his condition declined, and he received antibiotics and intravenous fluids; on November 19th, pansinusitis was revealed via MRI, and although medical staff tried to identify the source of the infection, his condition worsened and he became septic. He was then intubated on the 21st and placed on a liver transpalnt list on the 24th and began dialysis as palliative care. He was visited by a priest on the 26th and dialysis continued until December 1st when he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit after experiencing low blood pressure during treatment; his health continued to decline, and he was diagnosed with renal failure and internal bleeding. Medical personnel placed him on supplemental oxygen for comfort, and on December 3rd, he was pronounced dead.

Here at Appalachian Post, our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to Gaspar’s family and friends, wherever they may be: it’s never good to lose a loved one.
