WASHINGTON DC December 6, 2025

On December 4th, the Subcommittee on Workforce protections of the United States House Committee on Education and the Workforce convened a public hearing titled ‘in Their Corner, Creating More Opportunities for American Boxers. The hearing took place in the Rayburn Office Building and served as an official examination of the state of the boxing industry, and the federal interest in understanding how the sport can better support its athletes.

The record set forth by The United States House of Representatives shows that the hearing gathered testimony from regulatory officials, promoters, athletic commission representatives, and individuals involved in the athlete advocacy. The purpose of the session was not to allege any wrongdoing, nor to issue any findings, but to collect information that may help determine whether additional protections or improvements are warranted for professional boxers.

The hearing explored matters related to athlete welfare, contract practices, long-term health considerations, and broader structure of the boxing industry, and witnesses presented their perspectives on how the sport currently operates, and what challenges athletes face, as they navigate training management and competition. The Subcommittee didn’t propose legislation during the hearing and didn’t announce any conclusions; instead, the session stands as an early step in a broader inquiry into how federal oversight may or may not support boxing related labor issues.

The hearing remains on the public record and future actions, whether regulatory or legislative, will depend upon subsequent review analysis, and the findings of the Subcommittee, as it continues its examination of the industry.
