BUCKHANNON WEST VIRGINIA December 12th
The UPSHUR COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE issued a public notice that described a series of fraudulent calls circulating through the county in recent days. Several citizens reported receiving telephone calls in which the caller claimed that the individual had missed jury duty and now faced a citation or an arrest warrant. According to the notice the callers used a blocked number and then provided a second number that they said would resolve the supposed violation. The sheriff’s office explained that no deputy or staff member contacts residents by telephone regarding court obligations and that no legitimate legal authority will demand personal information in such a manner.

The notice further explained that the callers attempted to pressure individuals by suggesting that immediate action was required in order to avoid arrest. The sheriff’s office stated that these claims are false and that residents should treat any similar communication as a scam. The guidance urged citizens to remain cautious to never provide personal information to unknown callers and to confirm any court question directly with official offices rather than through unsolicited calls. Reports of these incidents continue to come in and the sheriff’s office asked the public to share the warning so that others may avoid falling victim to the scheme.

Every fact we present must be supported by original documentation, official statements, or direct evidence. When secondary sources are used, we clearly identify them and never treat them as first-hand confirmation. We avoid loaded language, emotional framing, or accusatory wording, and we do not attack individuals, organizations, or other news outlets. Our role is to report only what can be verified through first-hand sources and allow readers to form their own interpretations. If we cannot confirm a claim using original evidence, we state clearly that we reviewed first-hand sources and could not find documentation confirming it. Our commitment is simple: honest reporting, transparent sourcing, and zero speculation.
