Frankfort, Kentucky; December 23rd, 2025
Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman has secured a court order against Design 1 Group, LLC, a solar installation company, following an investigation prompted by nearly 200 consumer complaints alleging deceptive business practices, according to an announcement issued by the Office of the Attorney General of Kentucky.
The Attorney General’s Office stated that consumers reported a pattern of misleading conduct by the company, including inaccurate representations about projected energy savings, improper claims regarding eligibility for tax credits, and failures to complete or correct solar installations. In multiple cases, customers alleged that systems were nonfunctional or performed far below what had been promised.
According to the announcement, the Franklin Circuit Court granted the Attorney General’s request for injunctive relief, ordering Design 1 Group to comply with Kentucky consumer protection laws and to implement specific corrective measures. The order requires the company to accurately disclose system performance expectations, provide truthful information about incentives and tax credits, and respond appropriately to consumer complaints.
The Attorney General’s Office stated that the court order also places restrictions on the company’s business practices and provides enforcement mechanisms to ensure compliance. Failure to adhere to the terms of the order could result in further legal action, including additional penalties or closure.
Attorney General Coleman stated that the court’s action sends a clear message that businesses engaging in deceptive practices will be held accountable. The announcement emphasized that Kentucky consumers should be able to rely on truthful information when making significant financial decisions, particularly in industries involving long-term investments such as solar energy.
The Office of the Attorney General noted that the case was handled by the Office of Consumer Protection and prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General assigned to the matter. State officials encouraged consumers who believe they have been misled by similar business practices to contact the Attorney General’s Office.
The Attorney General’s Office stated that protecting Kentucky consumers from deceptive and unfair business conduct remains a priority and that enforcement actions will continue when violations are identified.
