Washington, D.C.; December 29th, 2025

Governor Brian P. Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp traveled to Washington, D.C., this week to visit members of the Georgia National Guard currently serving in the nation’s capital, according to an official statement released by the Office of the Governor of Georgia.

The Governor’s Office stated that the visit was intended to personally thank Georgia Guard members for their service and to recognize the sacrifices being made by troops and their families while serving away from home during the holiday season. During the visit, Governor Kemp and the First Lady met directly with service members and Guard leadership, spending time listening to updates on their mission and daily responsibilities.

According to the Governor’s Office, the Georgia National Guard troops are serving in Washington as part of ongoing operational and security support efforts. While specific mission details were not disclosed, officials emphasized that Guard members continue to play a vital role in supporting federal and state responsibilities when called upon.

The Governor’s Office noted that Governor Kemp expressed appreciation for the professionalism, readiness, and dedication of Georgia’s Guard members, highlighting the long-standing role the Georgia National Guard has played in responding to assignments both within the state and across the country.

Officials stated that the visit reflects the administration’s commitment to maintaining direct engagement with service members during deployments, particularly when those deployments extend through significant family and holiday periods.

The Georgia National Guard routinely supports a wide range of missions, including emergency response, security operations, disaster relief, and federal support assignments. The Governor’s Office emphasized that such missions depend on the willingness of Guard members to serve wherever needed, often on short notice.

According to the statement, Governor Kemp and the First Lady reaffirmed Georgia’s continued support for its service members and their families, underscoring the importance of recognizing their service not only during deployments, but year-round.

The Governor’s Office did not announce additional visits or changes related to the deployment at the time of publication.
