Del Rio, Texas; December 24th, 2025

A routine inspection at a South Texas border crossing resulted in a significant weapons seizure this week, as officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepted firearms, magazines, and a large quantity of ammunition at the Del Rio Port of Entry, according to an official CBP release.

CBP stated that officers conducting primary and secondary inspections identified a vehicle attempting to enter Mexico that warranted further examination. During the inspection, officers discovered 2 firearms, 9 magazines, and 1,389 rounds of ammunition concealed within the vehicle. The items were seized in accordance with federal law and CBP enforcement procedures.

According to the agency, weapons and ammunition exports are subject to strict federal regulations, and attempts to transport such items without proper authorization constitute serious violations. CBP emphasized that outbound enforcement plays a critical role in disrupting the illicit flow of weapons and ammunition that can contribute to criminal activity beyond U.S. borders.

The Del Rio Port of Entry sits within a region frequently used for both lawful cross-border travel and illicit smuggling attempts. CBP noted that officers assigned to the port employ layered inspection techniques, including behavioral analysis and non-intrusive inspection tools, to identify potential violations amid high traffic volumes.

CBP officials stated that seizures of this nature reflect the importance of outbound inspections, which are designed not only to interdict contraband entering the United States, but also to prevent controlled items from being unlawfully exported. Firearms and ammunition trafficking, the agency noted, remains a priority enforcement area.

The individuals involved were referred for further investigation, and the seized items were turned over to appropriate authorities. CBP did not release additional details regarding the individuals or potential charges, noting that such matters fall under ongoing investigative and prosecutorial processes.

Issued directly by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the release documents another enforcement action carried out at the Del Rio Port of Entry, underscoring the role of border officers in identifying and stopping illegal weapons movement through lawful crossings.
