Nashville, Tennessee; December 26th, 2025
The State of Tennessee has initiated a civil lawsuit against Roblox Corporation, alleging that the company made misleading claims about the safety of its online gaming platform for children, according to an announcement issued by the Office of the Tennessee Attorney General.
In the lawsuit, the Attorney General’s Office alleges that Roblox marketed its platform as a secure and child-friendly environment while failing to provide the level of protection suggested by its public statements. The state contends that these representations influenced parents and guardians to allow children to use the platform under the belief that effective safeguards were in place.
According to the Attorney General’s filing, the state alleges that children using Roblox were exposed to inappropriate content and interactions that conflicted with the company’s assurances regarding safety, moderation, and parental controls. The complaint asserts that Roblox’s platform design and operational practices did not consistently prevent minors from encountering harmful material or communications.
The lawsuit further alleges that Roblox’s public messaging minimized the risks associated with its interactive features, including user-generated content and social interaction tools. The Attorney General’s Office stated that these features allowed opportunities for misconduct that were inconsistent with the platform’s advertised protections.
Tennessee’s complaint alleges violations of state consumer protection laws, asserting that the company’s representations about child safety were deceptive and materially misleading. The Attorney General’s Office stated that companies offering digital services to children have a responsibility to ensure that their safety claims accurately reflect real-world protections.
The filing seeks relief under Tennessee law, including measures aimed at preventing future deceptive practices and addressing the alleged harms outlined in the complaint. The Attorney General’s Office stated that the action is part of a broader effort to hold technology companies accountable for representations made to families and consumers.
State officials emphasized that the lawsuit focuses on representations made by Roblox regarding safety features, rather than on gaming or online interaction itself. The Attorney General’s Office stated that transparency and accuracy are essential when platforms are used by minors and promoted to parents as safe environments.
The case will proceed in Tennessee courts, where the allegations outlined in the complaint will be addressed through the judicial process.
